HR Masterclasses

Give your managers the skills and confidence to manage people with ease.

Elite HR Masterclasses give managers the practical, real-world skills that they aren’t taught in basic training. Handling difficult conversations, spotting the early warning signs, managing performance; these overlooked skills are the difference between a manager and a true leader. We’re not offering slides upon slides of HR legislation and theory. Just useful guidance your team can put into practice straight away.

'Managing People': The most overlooked, essential part of management training

Most managers are promoted because they’re good at their job. It’s the natural next step for someone who is reliable, hands-on, knowledgeable, etc. After all, progress has come to be expected in many work environments nowadays.

But managing people is a completely different skill. And it’s often one that’s never taught.

Knowing how to navigate a difficult conversation. Being someone’s confidante. Spotting when a small issue is about to snowball. Understanding the root cause of your employee’s behaviour. These are some of the most important qualities any leader can have.

And why do we say that? Because the less time you spend firefighting, the more time you have to grow.

You might be noticing:

  • Manager avoiding difficult conversations because they’re not sure what to say or how to approach someone
  • The same conflict resurfacing, over and over again, no matter how many times it’s been ‘dealt with’
  • Performance issues going unaddressed until they start creating bigger problems
  • Managers constantly escalating people problems to you because they don’t feel equipped to handle it themselves.

These problems won’t be fixed by introducing another policy document. Managers need to be taught these powerful skills and more importantly, have the confidence to use them.

That’s exactly why we offer HR Masterclasses.

What our HR Masterclasses actually cover

Our masterclasses focus on the situations managers face day to day, not lengthy HR theory they’ll a) never use and b) bore them to tears. Sessions are practical, interactive, and grounded in real workplace scenarios.

We’ll cover topics such as:

Having the hard conversations.

The ones managers put off, and how to approach them with clarity and confidence

Recognising early warning signs of conflict before it escalates into something formal

Managing performance constructively, without it feeling like a confrontation

Understanding what's really going on behind an employee's behaviour or performance

Knowing when and how to step in, without making things worse

Every masterclass is designed to be applied from the moment it ends. It’s not another pamphlet that will be filed away and forgotten.

How it works

We identify the right focus.

What are the challenges your managers are currently facing? What will be most useful to your team right now? We establish so every session is relevant to your business.

Your managers take part in a practical, interactive session.

Built around real scenarios happening, or that have happened, in your business, not generic theory.

They leave with tools they can use straight away.

Whether it’s a difficult conversation that same day or spotting an early warning sign on their next shift, managers can start applying the skills they learn straight away.

It’s up to you how we run things. Masterclasses can be delivered as one-off sessions or, if you need something more consistent, an ongoing programme. We’re ready to adjust to your manager’s needs.

The difference confident managers make

Imagine a business where every dispute doesn’t end up escalating to a formal grievance. Fewer issues land on your desk, and you can actually focus on getting things done. Your team are fully equipped to handle people problems, with no need for intervention.

That’s what happens when managers are given real skills, instead of just ‘dealing with it’. Well-rounded managers aren’t just good at doing the do. They build stronger team relationships, identify and address problems before they have chance to escalate, and offer you more time to concentrate on growth.

We’re not selling a miracle package that promises ‘workplace issues will never happen again’. We’re making sure your managers know how to stop them before it’s too late.

Frequently asked questions

Our masterclasses are based on real HR situations, such as difficult conversations, early conflict and performance issues. Rather than focusing on generic leadership theory, managers leave with practical tools they can use straight away.

Built for growing businesses, typically 10 to 200 employees, where managers are taking on more responsibility for their teams but haven’t been given the training to manage people confidently. If your managers are technically excellent but unsure how to handle the “people side” of the role, this is for them.

Yes. We take the time to understand the specific challenges your managers are facing and shape each session around them. This means you get training that is relevant to your business, rather than a one-size-fits-all course.

Both options are available. Some businesses choose a single session focused on a particular challenge, while others prefer an ongoing programme that helps build confidence and management skills over time.

Sessions can be delivered for individual managers or your wider management team. We can recommend the most suitable approach based on your business and what you want to achieve.

No. Masterclasses help build core management skills across your team, while one-to-one coaching, available through our Retained HR Support, provides ongoing guidance for specific situations. Many clients find that combining both gives their managers the support they need.

Our first choice is to deliver sessions in person, as this allows for a more interactive and engaging experience. However, if virtual delivery works better for your organisation, we’re happy to offer that too.

Our HR Masterclasses are delivered as half-day sessions.

There’s no set minimum, but we recommend having no more than 25 managers in a session. Keeping the group to this size means everyone has the opportunity to get involved, ask questions and make the most of the interactive format.
